About ASHRAE

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an international organization of 50,000 persons with chapters throughout the world. The Society is organized for the sole purpose of advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration for the public's benefit through research, standards writing, continuing education and technical publications.

Through its membership, ASHRAE writes standards that set uniform methods of testing and rating equipment and establish accepted practices for the HVAC&R industry worldwide, such as the design of energy efficient buildings. The Society's research program, currently more than 100 research projects worth nearly $8 million, investigates numerous issues, such as identifying new refrigerants that are environmentally safe. ASHRAE organizes broad-based technical programs for presentation at its semiannual meetings and cosponsors the International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition, the largest HVAC&R trade show in North America.

How do I change my Address?

Answer: Go to the Headquarters web site (www.ashrae.org ), login, click on "Members Only", then "Address and Grade Change".  Enter your new address.

I have changed my address on the national website, but I am not receiving the Local Baltimore information (i.e. newsletter)?

Answer: Once you have changed your address nationally it will take some time for the updated rooster to be sent to the Baltimore Chapter.  Be patient, wait for a couple of months.  If it is not corrected, contact the Baltimore Chapter.

I want to change my chapter affiliation?

Answer: As much as we would like to, the local chapters do not have that power. This would be a quick way for us to increase local membership.  You must call the national office in Atlanta and request this change.  The contact is Debra Candy-Foster (debracf@ashrae.org, (P) 404 636-8400, (F) 404 321-5478)

I live in one area and work in another, which chapter will I be assigned to?

Answer: You will be assigned to the chapter which you select as your mailing address.

I am not a member of the Baltimore Chapter, but I would like to receive a copy of the Rooster?

Answer: The by-laws of the organization prohibit the distribution of the rooster to nonmembers.

What is the Baltimore Chapter Number?

Answer: The chapter number is 025.  This is sometimes needed for the application form.

There are two separate dues amounts.  There are national dues and local dues, how do I pay for them?

Answer: Pay the total amount (National + Local) to AHRAE and return with the renewal notice.  The local dues are later sent to the Baltimore Chapter.
