14th Annual (2009-2010) ASHRAE HVAC Student Challenge

CHALLENGE:

 

Each year in late winter, the Baltimore chapter of ASHRAE opens its doors to students in local high schools to solicit participation in an annual engineering challenge amongst students.  The theme of the challenge varies from year to year, but generally involves any one of the many facets of HVAC engineering relevant to current design practices.  The competition exposes high school students to basic engineering principles and opens possible career opportunities in the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industries.  This year (February, 2010) will be the 14th Annual ASHRAE HVAC Student Challenge (2009-2010 ASHRAE year).  It is again time for all interested high schools to make their team selections for participation in the competition, and to finalize reservations for both the competition and awards ceremony.  Up to three students per team are eligible to enter.

 

In the week following the competition, Baltimore ASHRAE opens its monthly meeting at the Engineering Society of Baltimore to welcome all students.  During that meeting, which carries the theme "Student Night", the chapter publicly recognizes challenge participants, and congratulates and presents awards to those teams that place the highest.  In the recent past all participants have received small gifts in addition to the placing teams in appreciation of their ingenuity and efforts in the challenge.
